Never short for great stories or unique ways to keep his team competitive, Oakland (Mich.) men’s basketball coach Greg Kampe is putting his creative ways to a different beneficial use. He is going to fast for 30 days.
Entering his 29th year as Grizzlies coach, Kampe’s food denial will begin on Aug. 7, as he raises awareness and dollars in support of Coaches for Cancer. Kampe, 56, is asking people to donate money for each day he is able to adhere to a juice-only diet.
“I have had some close friends diagnosed with cancer recently,” Kampe said. “So, I felt like this was a good way to raise cancer awareness, while choosing to live a different, healthier lifestyle.”
According to a school release, Kampe hatched his idea after watching the documentary “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.”
