Finally, after watching games for two days, it’s opening day for Kansas City baseball. There are lots of expectations, albeit with lots of concerns, but not like the headache (or is it backache or neck ache?) down in Arkansas country, where the jokes are sliding free and easy like a motorcycle on pavement…
- That said, it just seems a bit of a cruel joke that Major League Baseball rolled out its full opening day on Thursday by highlighting some fantastic starting pitching.
- Justin Verlander, Stephen Strasburg, Johnny Cueto, Roy Halladay, Justin Masterson; all of them were phenomenal.
- Tonight, the Kansas City Royals will trot out Bruce Chen against Albert Pujols and the Los Angeles Angels.
- I’m as optimistic about KC’s future as anyone, but think of it like that, and it’s chilling at how far the Royals still have to go in the starting pitching department.
- It’s almost as cold as the brew I’ll enjoy while cussing and discussing such things with friends and watching the game.
- I missed baseball.
- I also already miss college basketball. The Kansas/Kentucky final did nothing but make me want next season to hurry up and get here.
- Both the Jayhawks and Wildcats will look radically different (again), but that won’t stop me or many others from thinking the two superpowers could fight for the title again next year.
- Considering the mathematical possibilities, to even say that with a level of seriousness speaks to just how good both Bill Self and John Calipari have become.
- It’s those two’s world…the rest are just livin’ in it right now.
- Thanks to a couple of interviews, stories and a YouTube video showing the team’s first workout, a lot of Kansas State fans are quickly learning to live with new head coach Bruce Weber.
- And, they’re liking it.
- Of course, keeping a roster intact doesn’t hurt the budding coach/fan relationship either.
- Just wait until KSU fans see their team in a real, honest-to-goodness offense.
- Sporting KC has found plenty of offense thus far in its 4-0 start, outscoring opponents 7-1.
- The goals are nice, but one would actually expect that number to be much higher considering SKC leads Major League Soccer, by a wide margin, in shots (81) and shots on goal (30).
- Kei Kamara has 28 shots by himself, 12 of which have been on goal. His 12 SOG are more than four MLS teams have so far this season. (Philadelphia – 11; Chivas USA – 10; Toronto FC & Vancouver – 7)
- SKC is out-kicking MLS right now, but not like Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino out-kicked his coverage cover-up.
- Whew, pig-sooey.
- Even Tiger Woods would be impressed.
Sporting’s margin is actually 7-1, with three shutouts.
Steve, thanks for the correction. Math foils me once again.
