While Kansas City Royals fans bemoan another wasted season and ram their heads into a brick wall at the thought that ownership is here to stay for the foreseeable future, Sporting Kansas City continues to shine.
At the base, it is a better product on the field and a rabid, vibrant fan base – unashamed to deck itself out in team garb. At the top, it is the pinnacle of ownership and administration on all accounts really, including taking care of fan interaction.
Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman is part of that group that gets it.
His open letter to fans, reminding them what makes Kansas City’s already legendary home-field advantage so fantastic (hint, it ain’t the grass or the steel beams), is perfect.
“OK….here we go. A moment we’ve all been waiting for….a chance for silverware. I’m happy for you. The atmosphere I’m anticipating from you tomorrow night will be nothing less than hair-raising for all of us.
But what I need you to consider tonight, while you’re trying to sleep, is this. There will be a very distinct moment when we will need you tomorrow night. I don’t know what it will be specifically or when it will happen, but I know it will be there.”
And, that’s just the start to his latest, beautifully illustrated concept that SKC acknowledges, understands and LOVES its fans.
If you’re tired of being crapped on, or least are ready for a mental break from Kauffman Stadium, this is where you should head next. Even you, soccer-hating guy. You won’t hate your decision to go.
