Let me start here: I LOVE Artificial Intelligence and the slew of AI products that recently have flooded the landscape. But…

While AI-generated copy may seem like a convenient solution (and it is), it often falls short in capturing the unique voice and essence of an association – never mind throwing off the balance needed to deliver compelling content that reflects professionalism, authenticity, and engaging storytelling.

Why? How? Let’s explore four big ways …

“Human subject matter experts bring valuable industry expertise, enabling them to create content that not only informs but also educates and adds value to the association’s audience.”

Authenticity and Connection

Associations thrive on building meaningful connections with their members and stakeholders. Authenticity is key in fostering trust and engagement. AI-generated copy lacks the human touch and nuanced understanding necessary to effectively convey the association’s mission, values, and member experiences.

Genuine storytelling and personalized messaging resonate more deeply with audiences, establishing a connection that AI-generated content simply cannot replicate right now.

Tailored Messaging

Each association has its own distinct goals, objectives, and target audience. AI-generated copy, while capable of producing generic content, struggles to adapt and tailor messaging to the specific needs and interests of your association’s members. Effective communication requires a deep understanding of the audience’s pain points, aspirations, and motivations.

Humans stand a much higher change at employing empathy and context as they craft personalized messages that resonate with members on a deeper level.

Subject Matter Experts (Industry Expertise)

Associations and their members often serve as authoritative sources of industry knowledge and insights. Current AI-generated copy – especially that generated by tools or platforms that only have access to certain blocks of information – lacks the ability to comprehend complex subject matters and provide expert analysis.

Human subject matter experts bring valuable industry expertise, enabling them to create content that not only informs but also educates and adds value to the association’s audience. Their ability to interpret trends, provide context, and offer practical advice sets them apart from AI-generated content.

Adaptability and Creativity

Associations need to stay agile and adapt to evolving trends and member needs. AI-generated copy operates within the constraints of programmed algorithms, limiting its ability to think creatively and adapt to dynamic situations.

Humans can pivot quickly, respond to real-time events, and inject fresh ideas into their content strategies, ensuring that the association’s website remains relevant and engaging.

So… right.

While AI-generated copy has its merits in certain contexts, relying solely on it for your association’s website potentially undermines the authenticity, tailored messaging, industry expertise, and adaptability that your human subject matter experts bring to the table. There’s no good way around that – not yet, anyways.

In the meantime, mix AI into your efforts, by all means. It can help create evergreen content and fill in some production gaps. But, don’t leave out humans and their unique experiences to keep your content strong.

One response to “Why AI-Generated Copy Falls Short for Association Websites”

  1. I agree with your points for low AI that is in the public domain. However, for those who use AI with our own datasets it can emulate our tone and personalize our communications. Generative AI will do this even better than low AI. It is very important to articulate what type of AI you are speaking of as all AI is not equal or new.
